MSc Position in Light Emitting Diode (LED) Technology

The Centre for Advanced Photonics and Process Analysis (CAPPA) invites applications for an MSc research position in the area of Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology.

The candidate should have a strong background in either Physics or Engineering with an associated understanding of optics in general. The project will require the candidate to work with a local SME to develop UV LED solutions to be developed and integrated into a water purification unit. The work will involve simulation and characterisation of LEDs and the building and testing of the desired unit. All necessary support and guidance will be provided for the successful completion of the project.

The candidate should be capable of independent work and comfortable with presenting results to the wider audience. Strong reporting skills and familiarity with computer simulation and design software are essential.

The position will be funded for a period of 24 months starting Oct/Nov 2011 and will be provided through the CAPPA centres affiliation with Cork Institute of Technology/Tyndall Institute.
