The Centre for Advanced Photonics & Process Analysis [CAPPA] is at the forefront of photonics research in Ireland. CAPPA is:
- Focused towards industry-led applied research.
- 11 full-time researchers, 6 postgraduate researchers.
- Currently engaged with various Irish, European and International companies.
- In receipt of funding from Enterprise Ireland, SFI, HEA and EU.
- A member of key national consortia: PiFAS and INSPIRE.
- Collaborating internationally with 11 of the top 100 universities.
CAPPA launched in October 2008 with start-up funding from Enterprise Ireland’s Applied Research Enhancement [ARE] programme, and builds on world-leading semiconductor laser research funded by 2 consecutive SFI PI awards and the HEA PRTLI 3 & 4 programmes.
Photonics is a key strand of the CIT's strategic research plan and CAPPA forms part of the Photonics Research Cluster within the Institute's Department of Applied Physics & Instrumentation. The centre works with a wide variety of companies from Irish start-ups and SMEs to world leading MNCs on projects such as photonic device development and novel inspection techniques for manufacturing processes.
CAPPA's facilities are co-located in CIT and the Tyndall National Institute under the CIT@Tyndall partnership. Our activities in Tyndall are part of Tyndall's Photonics Centre, where we lead a strand focused on Photonic Device Dynamics.
