About Us PiFAS
PiFAS (Photonic Integration From Atoms to Systems) is a Science Foundation Ireland Strategic Research Cluster tasked with the goal of developing and supporting photonics research in Ireland. It combines the activities of several research groups in third level institutions across Ireland to achieve an internationally-competitive critical mass of research effort. The Cluster will develop advanced techniques for combining different photonic technologies in innovative ways. The PiFAS research team works closely with Irish researchers and industrial partners to develop the necessary expertise and infrastructure to achieve this goal.
The objectives of PiFAS are:
- Development of new photonic devices and systems.
- Development of photonic integration, packaging and assembly technologies.
- Training of new researchers in photonics (PhD level).
- Support photonic academic research in Ireland.
- Support Irish industry to implement photonic technologies in their business.
- Build a critical mass of photonics 'research and development' in Ireland.
Tyndall and University College Cork are the two main academic partners in the PiFAS project, with further contributions from other major Irish institutions such as Cork Institute of Technology, Dublin City University and Trinity College, Dublin. CAPPA represents CIT within PiFAS and in conjunction with the other partners will seek to advance photonic research within Ireland inline with the project goals. Further information can be accessed on the PiFAS website hosted by our lead partner Tyndall.
