Shasta Limited is a highly innovative energetic company based in Granard, Co Longford and was founded by Ann Marie Durkin, a mother of three, out of a need for a baby product which at the time did not exist. This initial need was a pre sterilised soother for premature children in incubators. Starting from this need and concept Shasta launched the Steri-Soother™ which is the world’s first pre-sterilised soother. Shasta’s product pipeline currently includes portable sterilisation devices designed to meet the needs of modern parents whose sterility and safety requirements extend far beyond the family home.
CAPPA and Shasta completed a technical Feasibility Study in 2011 which was supported by Enterprise Ireland under their Innovation Partnership programme. The project investigated UV technologies which will underpin a portable baby bottle sterilisation platform that is currently being developed by Shasta. Apart from the photonics expertise in CAPPA, the project also included microbiology testing in the Bio-Explore Research Group in CIT’s Department of Biological Sciences.
"Working in collaboration with CAPPA was an extremely professional experience and a very efficient partnering process for a start-up. The team can assess the viability of the project and based both on experience and results can provide key advice. They also have the skills to integrate and link effectively with other industry partners."
