Kaynat Alvi

Ph.D. Student

She received her master’s degree in physics from the Syed Babar Ali Institute of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan in June 2020. During her studies, she worked on electrically switchable hybrid liquid crystal molybdenum disulphide optical devices. She used Raman spectroscopy and Photoluminescence to study the interaction of Nematic and Chiral Nematic Liquid Crystals with precision transferred MoS2 flakes. She worked as a visiting faculty member from Sep 2020 – March 2023 at University of Sargodha and Beaconhouse National University, Pakistan. In Nov 2023, she started working as a PIADS PhD student in the Photonics Theory Group at Tyndall National Institute with Dr. Felipe Murphy Armando and Centre for Advanced Photonics and Process Analysis, Munster Technological University supervised by Dr. William Whelan Curtin. Her PhD research project is designing and characterizing O-band Quantum Confined Stark Effect (QCSE) from Ge/SiGe electro absorption modulators (EAM).
