Satheesh Chandran - CAPPA

Satheesh Chandran

Researcher

Dr. Satheesh Chandran received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Physics from the University of Calicut, Kerala, India. He completed his Ph.D. in 2016 at the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT Calicut), Kerala, India. His doctoral research, titled “Cavity-Enhanced Absorption Spectroscopy for Atmospheric Trace Pollutant Monitoring: Instrumentation and Measurements,” focused on the development of advanced optical techniques for atmospheric sensing.

Following his Ph.D., Dr. Chandran co-founded Optind Solutions Private Limited, a spin-off company from the National Institute of Technology Calicut, focused on the development of optical instrumentation for atmospheric applications.

From 2018 onwards, Dr. Chandran worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Laser Spectroscopy Group (LSG) at the School of Physics, University College Cork (UCC), Cork, Ireland. At UCC, he contributed to multiple research projects, including the development of frequency comb–based sensors for ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, and high-resolution spectroscopic measurements of nitrogen dioxide, nitrous acid, water vapour, and their isotopologues. He also played a significant role in the development of the 27 m³ Irish Atmospheric Simulation Chamber at UCC.

Dr. Chandran’s primary research interests are laser spectroscopy and the development of optical instruments for in situ trace gas sensing.
