About Us ARE Programme
CAPPA's seed funding was provided by Enterprise Ireland under the Applied Research Enhancement [ARE] programme. This programme has been created to enhance the applied research capabilities within the Institutes of Technology. The aim is to build upon the applied expertise within the Institutes and make this knowledge accessable to local and national industry. Since EI commenced the ARE Programme in 2005, 17 applied research centres of excellence in 11 Institutes of Technology have been provided with seed funding. Information from EI on the ARE Programme can be accessed
here.
The key objectives of the ARE centres are:
- To enable regional development by introducing innovative technological solutions through collaboration with industrial partners.
- To develop the next generation technology platforms for the benefit of Irish based industry through a dedicated applied research strategy.
The centres have a wide range of capabilities and competencies but can be broadly divided into 3 technology clusters:
- ICT & Software
- Bio Life Sciences & Pharmaceutical
- Bio-Medical Devices & Materials
Apart from the expertise that CAPPA can provide in the areas of photonics, applied optics, imaging, spectroscopy and process analysis, our partner centres across the ARE Programme can provide potential collaborators with a wide range of technology solutions. Details of all 13 current ARE centres can be found below.
